The Ocean to Lake trail is a point-to-point trail, with many places in between for day hikes. This is a secondary trail of the Florida Trail System. The nature of this distance makes it a great challenge for the weekend warrior, or similarly for those who like to take their time and wish to spend a week hiking one of south Florida’s hidden gems. You have the choice of starting or ending with your feet in the sand at the ocean.

This area consists of 97 protected acres of wetland habitat and other natural communities including scrubby and mesic flatwoods, baygall swamp, and depression marshes. The trail can become muddy during wet conditions and waterproof shoes are recommended. This trail leads to a historical site that is home to one of the largest AIS Native American mounds in South Florida.

This route starts by crossing over a few bridges and boardwalks to connect to the Blue Heron Trail. Along this trail, there are a couple of different observation platforms where visitors can observe wildlife from a safe distance. The route then connects to the Gopher Tortoise Trail which winds back to the parking lot.

This route consists of a combination of trails. Starting on the Blue Heron Trail, the route then connects to the Otter Trail on the east portion of the area. From here, the trail takes an old dirt road to loop back to the start of the route. Most of the path is exposed to the sun with little shade. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area to observe.

This preserve features 94-acres of pristine woodlands as well as a large lake in the middle that features catch and release fishing. There is also a kayak and canoe launch site available. The interpretive trail travels along Ten Mile Creek and loops around the lake, providing beautiful views of the area and many opportunities to observe wildlife.
