Dog Friendly Bangkok

Bangkok is a challenging city for a visiting dog, and an honest guide says so. The BTS and MRT trains ban pets outright, many public parks do the same, and the heat is serious most of the year. What has changed is a genuine dog friendly scene: dedicated dog parks, a wave of bring-your-dog cafes, and a new city ordinance professionalising ownership. With a car or GrabPet and an early alarm, you can do well here.

Not on the trains. The BTS Skytrain and MRT admit service dogs only, with no carrier exception, so plan around them. The bright spots are GrabPet, the ride-hailing option with pet-trained drivers where a leashed or crated dog is welcome, and the SRT Red Line commuter trains, which now run pet friendly services for caged dogs and cats with a vaccination certificate. For most journeys, GrabPet is the practical answer.

In the dedicated dog parks, and Bangkok now has good ones. The Pet Park at Wachirabenchathat Park, better known as Rot Fai, is a fenced zone where registered, vaccinated dogs run free. Private venues like Puppy Planet and Club K9 add fully fenced off-leash runs. The big public parks are stricter: Benjakitti's dog zone requires registration and a lead, and dogs in heat or under four months are barred from the park areas.

Rot Fai Park's Pet Park in Chatuchak is the flagship public option, fenced and purpose built. Benjakitti Forest Park gives leashed dogs a genuinely beautiful lakeside walk in the middle of the city, registration in hand. Lumpini Park, long closed to dogs, now has a purpose-built dog park on its Wireless Road side. For a full off-leash session, the private parks at Puppy Planet and Club K9 are worth the entry fee.

Indoors, generally no, with the exception of the city's many dog cafes and pet welcoming venues that make dogs the point. Places like Dog's Dream and Porcupine Cafe are built for bring-your-dog visits, and a growing set of bistros welcome dogs in their gardens and terraces, especially around Sukhumvit, Ari and Thonglor. Ordinary restaurants and street food spots are best assumed dog free, so plan meals around the dog friendly list.

Start early at Benjakitti's lakeside paths before the heat, give your dog a proper run at Rot Fai's Pet Park, then spend the hot hours in the air conditioning of a dog cafe. The Sukhumvit dog venues make an easy afternoon circuit, and an evening walk at Suan Luang Rama IX rounds the day off. Always carry water, watch the pavement temperature, and keep to shade through the middle of the day.

The best escapes are green ones. Suan Luang Rama IX in the city's east gives big open fields, and dog friendly resorts and cafes with grounds have multiplied around Bangkok's edges, including venues with pools built for dogs. Further out, the hill country toward Khao Yai has pet welcoming resorts, though the national park itself keeps wildlife rules strict, so check each destination's dog policy before you commit to the drive.

Bangkok tightened its rules in January 2026. Dogs must be microchipped and registered with the city, leashed and wearing an ID tag in public, and vaccinated against rabies with boosters kept current, with fines running to 25,000 baht for breaches. Controlled breeds such as pit bulls and Rottweilers must be muzzled in public on a short lead. Park rules add their own layers, so read the signs, and always pick up after your dog.
