The Little Nell

A wide and gentle paved trail with beautiful scenery and nice houses to look at along the way...busy with lots of walkers and bikers. Accessibility: There is 1 designated accessible space in the small paved parking lot off of Neale Avenue at the southeast end of the trail. It is van-accessible with a striped access aisle. This route starts at the trailhead parking area on Ute Avenue, then goes steeply uphill to Ute Rock (a great photo spot). From there it's just up, up, and up, all the way to the Sundeck at the top of the ski lifts. This route has some punishingly steep climbs, but once you're up on the ridge, the scenery makes it all worth it. This route takes hikers from the trailhead on Ute Ave up along Ute Trail all the way to the local favorite Ute Rock overlook. This is a gorgeous viewpoint that is popular with photographers and social media fans alike, and for good reason. However, the trail itself is very steep, and can be icy even outside of the winter months, so always be careful. Proper footwear is a must, and poles are recommended.

Smuggler Mountain Road is a really fun trail that's basically a straightforward up and down trip. You'll pass a bunch of really interesting mines along the way that are quite fun to explore, like Pelland Mine and Dellas Mine, and others are nearby enough to reach if you're looking to extend your hike just a little bit.

Parking by this trailhead is by permit only for residents.
