What are the Canine Hospitality Awards?
They are Roch Dog's annual honours for the world's best dog friendly hotels. Each award recognises a hotel that stands above the rest for the way it welcomes dogs, judged against the Roch Dog Friendly Standard rather than on reputation or marketing.
How are the winners chosen?
Every hotel in our directory is graded across more than seventy verified data points and ranked strictly by score. The winners are simply the highest verified scores in each category, taken straight from that ranking, then inspected in person before the award is confirmed.
How are the hotels verified?
Personally, and by name. Our winners are drawn from a pool of more than 3,000 dog friendly hotels across 56 countries, and our founder picks every award from that pool himself. Each and every hotel we honour is personally overseen and verified by him before its name goes on this page. No panel, no proxy, no rubber stamp.
Can a hotel pay to win?
No. There are no paid placements. A hotel is welcome to enter its property into the awards, but entering never buys a win. Winners are only the highest verified scores in the directory, so the assessment decides the outcome, never a fee. That is exactly what makes the honour worth having.
Aren't most pet-friendly hotel awards fake?
Frankly, yes. Most are pay to play, a badge sold to any hotel willing to buy it, which is why we published the research on pay to play dog friendly hotel awards. This is not one of those: ours cannot be bought at any price.
Who runs the awards?
Roch Dog, the independent certification body for dog friendly hotels. We operate the Roch Dog Friendly Standard, the criteria based system published openly at rochstandard.com, and the awards are drawn directly from it.
What does dog friendly actually mean here?
It means measured, not marketed. Rather than a vague label, we score a hotel across more than seventy criteria, from where dogs are welcome on the property to what waits for them in the room, and grade it from A+ to F. An award means a hotel scored at the very top of that scale.
How can a hotel enter or be considered?
