Prestonfield House Dog Friendly Review

Prestonfield House is not certified. Assessed against the Roch Dog Friendly Standard, it did not meet our minimum requirements for certification. That caps the rank at F.

Prestonfield House shows genuine warmth towards dogs. They are welcomed in the bar, on the terrace and patio, and in the lounge, so owners are not confined to their bedroom during a stay. Most rooms are dog friendly and there is no weight or size limit, meaning larger breeds are just as welcome as small ones, and up to three dogs may stay per room. Dogs may be left alone in the room if needed, which gives owners some flexibility. A garden is available for dogs to use, and there are green spaces and parks nearby for walks, supported further by a dog-walking service. Practical touches include a proper dog bed, real food and water bowls, and free treats. Dogs stay free of charge, the hotel's pet policy is publicly available, and no damage deposit is required, all of which point to a genuinely accommodating approach.

That said, there are notable gaps. Dogs are not welcomed in the restaurant, so mealtimes there mean leaving your dog elsewhere. There is no dedicated dog space, dog wash or shower area, and no dog food available to buy on site, so owners need to bring their own supplies. The hotel offers no dog-sitting service, only a walking service, and there is no guidance on local walking routes, poop bags, grooming or dog toys provided. Staff are not noted as trained for canine guests, and there is no emergency vet number offered. Cats are not welcomed to stay, and the hotel has no listed dog friendly activities, events, awards or media coverage, nor does it support a dog or pet charity.
