Inn Friesland

The Dutch Coastal Path is a special walking tour. The long-distance walk (LAW5) runs entirely along the Dutch coastline in over 700 kilometers. A beautiful trip in which you almost constantly walk over the dikes along the water. With this stage you walk along the coast of the Wadden Sea. With good weather you can see Ameland and Schiermonnikoog in the water. You visit the villages of Wierum and Moddergat, walk along the Bantpolder and cross the dike to Lauwersoog.

Mudflat hiking from Holwerd to Ameland is a fantastic experience. It is not an easy journey, wandering through the mud and water. Good shoes and a good condition are therefore requirements, as is the guidance of a guide. In Holwerd there are several mudflat walking associations that offer this tour. Along the way you can enjoy unprecedented views, countless seals and birds.

The small Frisian town of Dokkum has centuries of history. The story goes that Boniface was murdered in this area in 754. This is also officially the year of foundation of Dokkum, as this concerned the first documentation about the city. In the 13th century Norbertine monks settled in their new monastery in Dokkum. At the end of the same century, Dokkum received city rights. With this route you make a nice city walk over the remains of the old fortifications. The town is filled with monuments...

In addition to skating, walking and cycling, there is now also a mountain bike Elfstedentocht. The event was set up by the organization of the bicycle Elfstedentocht. It is a two to three day event, taking place in September since 2016 (although not every year). It is quite a challenging trip through the woods and along the lakes of Friesland, which is only recommended for experienced mountain bikers and people with an excellent condition.

Tour between Dokkum and Aalsum, through the Frisian countryside. The route leads along quiet farm roads and cycle paths, and is excellent as a morning or evening walk or as a running route. You start in the historic center of Dokkum, where the canals and canals take you to the farmer's fields and Aalsum. In Aalsum you will pass the unique terp church.
