This is a beautiful scenic motor trail. Be sure to drive slow and be courteous of others soaking up nature and wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for black bears along the drive. There are plenty of places to stop and witness streams and historical homes throughout the drive.

This trail takes visitors through the old Sugarlands community of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There are several rock walls that used to mark garden areas and property lines, etc. At about 1.4 miles in you come upon the Old Civilian Conservation Corp Camp with the old clock tower at the camp parade grounds. The Old Sugarlands Trail was the original first paved road to Newfound Gap. Before the road was paved it was a wagon road through the center of the Sugarlands Community. A quarry near the trail was used to build the first paved roads over the mountains. The first 1.5 miles are narrow and flat.
