This trailhead is open from dawn to dusk. Perhaps one of the toughest hikes in the San Fernando Valley, this trail can be used as a training course for harder hikes (such as Mt. Whitney or Cactus-to-Clouds). The sharp elevation gain is recommended only for experienced hikers. For those who endure the challenge, you will be rewarded with some of the best views in the valley. Be sure to bring plenty of water...and even more willpower.

The elevation gain is a steady, fairly even climb when taking the north loop up. This hike is very exposed so best to do in the morning, later evening or in cooler weather. The views are really fantastic north to Angeles National Forest and south on a clearer day. This is a great weekday training hike and a fantastic workout without the crowds of other more popular trails like Echo Mountain or Runyon Canyon. This trail begins at the Griffith Park Visitor Center and heads up a gravel fire road and follows a wide single track that climb and drop down a number of steep ridges. The trail intersects and follows an asphalt road that leads to the very top of Griffith Park, right above the Hollywood sign. Be aware of hot weather as there is little to no shade on this hike.
