Primarily utilized as a long-distance cycling route between Pittsburgh, PA and Cumberland, MD, the G.A.P. (as it is called) connects with the Historic 184.5 mile C&O canal towpath which terminates in Georgetown, Washington D.C. A majority of the GAP trail is located on nearly level abandoned rail beds, crushed limestone, and asphalt surfaces.
