Spring Lake is a large spring-fed pool of crystal clear water forming the headwaters of the San Marcos River. Part of the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment on the Texas State University campus, the lake is an attraction with glass-bottom boat tours offered, as well as scuba certification and a small aquarium on site.

The trail can become rocky on some portions of the route and it is suggested to bring appropriate hiking shoes. There are many beautiful sights along the way and plenty of opportunities to observe wildlife in the area.

This is a nicely paved riverwalk that runs through San Marcos City Park and Rio Vista Park. The route is very scenic and offers opportunities to view the river and wildlife can be seen along the way. This is a popular area in the summertime and you can see other people enjoying picnics by the water. Benches are located along the way for visitors to relax and take in the views.

This tremendous and short trail travels along singletrack through a beautiful forested area. The trailhead is tucked behind the grounds maintenance building and can be hard to find. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area and it is common to see white-tailed deer, rabbits, and a variety of birds.
