Most of the way it is flat but there are some hilly areas at the Bernie Road trailhead and near the I-5 crossing. This a lovely gentle, well-maintained gravel trail alongside the lake. This route is great for a variety of activities for the whole family and offers great views of the lake the entire way. Dogs are not allowed on the trail between April and October. This hike is for those in Portland who would like to walk across the historic St. Johns bridge and see the lush woods of northern Forest Park. This loop is a great way to enjoy them both. It can be muddy in the winter with the rain, but for the most part trails are kept up well. There are lots of native elderberry and blackberry bushes along the trail.
