Thomas Farm and Middle Ford Ferry Trails. This is a two part trail. Thomas Farm trail is 1.75 miles and Middle Ford Ferry trail is .25 mile. Thomas Farm-This trail covers the part of the battlefield where the heaviest fighting took place during the Battle of Monocacy, on July 9, 1864. Middle Ford Ferry-This trail explores early settlement of the Monocacy Region and provides peaceful views of the Monocacy River and the surrounding landscape.

The Junction Trail begins at the Southeast corner of the Monocacy National Battlefield Visitor Center parking lot. The trail is a well-maintained natural grass, gently rolling loop, approximately one mile long. It starts at the corner of the parking lot and is denoted by a marker and sign. During the Civil War, this mill was owned by James H. Gambrill and today you can see the first two stories are remnants of this old mill. Constructed in 1830, the Gambrill family operated the mill into the 1890s but was then forced to sell the property once the economy crashed.
