This is a short visit to an ancient villa near Lucca: "La Specola" (The Observatory). La Specola was an astronomical observatory, today it has become the Museum of Natural History. In the surroundings of the Specola there are beautiful villas to visit such as Villa Reale, Villa Mansi, Villa Torriggiani. The return route starts from the car park near the Botteghino restaurant and the Torrente Fraga.

This route takes you to the Croce di Brancoli, in the locality of Gignano di Brancoli, built in 1594 as a sentinel. From here you can admire wonderful views over the Lucca plain, the Apuan Alps, the Middle Serchio Valley, the Apennines and the Tyrrhenian Sea up to the islands of Capraia and Gorgona. In 1944 it was destroyed by the Germans during the World War and then rebuilt, higher and in reinforced concrete, also reusing the stones of the old cross.

This is a challenging route through a wood with many small streams that starts from Borgo a Mozzano and arrives at Colle di Mummia (927m). The first part of the path climbs rapidly up to Cune (517m) and then becomes a gentler and more gradual climb up to the hill. In Cune you can stop for a food break both on the way out and on the way back.

An excursion departing from Borgo a Mozzano, in the parking lot in Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi. The first part of the route begins along the railway road up to Località Monte. Proceed towards Catureglio crossing the river, continue crossing the Rio Secco until you return to Borgo di Mozzano.
