Al Borgo

A route that starts from Sarzana, near the Porta Romana and follows a stretch of Tappa 85 of the Via Francigena. The route proceeds mainly by road and passes through the town of Portonetti, La Prada, Avenza, crosses the Carrione stream, Massa, up to Piestrasanta. The segment is flat; the main attractive is the archeological area of Luni, ancient Roman harbour where the pilgrims used to board towards Santiago. Once passed Avenza you will walk on a nice road between the vineyards that cover the surrounding hills between Avenza and Massa, in a succession of nice panoramas of the Alps and of the sea. A walk in the Bozi di Saudino Natural Park, following the Saudino Ring path. The route runs clockwise, reaching Via Bradiola and returning to Via Fondamento, the starting point. The lakes called Bozi di Saudino are wetlands of artificial origin deriving from former clay and gravel quarries flooded by groundwater. It is clear from the historical archives that the first clay extraction interventions carried out in this locality date back to the mid-nineteenth century.

A circular route to be made by bicycle. It starts from the locality of Cafaccio and proceeds counterclockwise crossing the Magra River and reaching Marinella di Sarzana. From here continue along the river until you reach Santo Stefano di Magra. This route was used as an itinerary for the Magra Gravel 2019 edition.
