At the Abetone Pass, the two pyramids built on the Tuscan-Modena border in 1777 in memory of the Ximeniana road and Giardini are easily recognizable. The route climbs on a dirt road (loose gravel) which crosses the coniferous forest of Abetone and reaches, after about two kilometers, a stone fountain. An excursion in the Regional Park of the Upper Modenese Apennines, which follows the CAI paths 100 and 104. The route starts from the parking lot of the Orto Botanico Forestale dell'Abetone and proceeds along the path passing by the Capanna dei Pastori Refuge. From here you continue to Lago Nero, and its homonymous Refuge, and then proceed counterclockwise passing by Lago Piatto and reach the Hannibal Pass (1794m).

This is a beautiful excursion that takes place on part of the Great Apennine Excursion (GEA) with arrival at Lago Nero and possible stop at the Lago Nero Refuge (1731m) with bivouac always open. The basin of this lake is formed by the excavation of an ancient glacier and surrounded by imposing Apennine mountains that reach 2000m, in particular Alpe Tre Potenze (1,940m).
