The Diemerpark is an island located on the IJmeer. When you walk around here you will be surprised to hear that this used to be a garbage dump. Now it is a beautiful green park with wells and animals. A popular area for local residents for sports, walking and recreation. The Zuiderzeepad is a 500 kilometer long distance walk all around the IJsselmeer. Cycle route Ronde van de Stelling van Amsterdam originated as an annually organized cycling event. The event takes place in August and routes of 65, 120 and 170 kilometers are organized. The routes are entirely devoted to the old defenses of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. The 170 kilometer route follows the entire line and during this route you will pass all of the 46 forts. Short tour through the most northern part of the Diemerpolder. A nice round through grasslands and along ditches, with the occasional small forest. The second half of the route runs over the Kanaaldijk, the dike along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. Dogs are allowed to run loose in the beginning.

The longest nature trail in the Netherlands, the Trekvogelpad, leads you from west to east in over 400 kilometers.
