The entire route is more than 100 kilometers and is generally divided into 8 stages, with the option to extend the route with 5 approach routes. The trail largely runs over ancient border dikes (grensdijkjes) that were built to keep the rivers in check. The entire route is well signposted and there are booklets for sale to learn more about the area in which you walk.

The Eindhoven Canal flows between Eindhoven and Helmond. The canal was dug between 1843 and 1846 for the transport of heavy goods. Today, the canal mainly fulfills a recreational function. The route starts at the beginning of the canal and is easy to shorten or extend. The entire canal is 14 kilometers long, it is possible to make a circle of 28 kilometers around the canal.
