The hike takes you around Lake Hötjärnen which is located in Ljusnarsberg municipality in Västmanland and Ludvika municipality and is part of Norrström's main catchment area. Hötjärnen was a mud pond for Grängesberg's mines between the late 1960s and 1990s. Today, it still attracts many waders. On the south side of the lake there is a bird tower and by the lake there are good opportunities to catch perch, pike and roach.

The stretch is part of Gruvtrampen which is a scenic hike between Skattlösberg and Grängesberg via paths and roads, footbridges, bogs, mountains and hills. The mine ramp is reminiscent of the miners' migration to the mine.

The Saxen trail runs north from Saxdalen and is marked in green. At Styggviken you can choose to walk over Stackarberget or follow the shoreline. At the Stackarberget stretch, you get a breathtaking view of the village from the top of the mountain. There is a barbecue area at Styggviken.

The Ljungås trail with a yellow marking follows the old road towards the Saxberg mine and ends at Myrrundan. The trail runs on smaller gravel roads, paths and forest terrain.
