This cycling route through the Frisian countryside starts in the village of Bakhuizen. Through the village of Rijs and along the Rijster Forest the route takes you through the Starnuman Forests towards the shores of the IJsselmeer from Nijemirdum to Stavoren. A beautiful cycling route with great views over the IJsselmeer and the surrounding area.

Walk along and over many dikes, through the old villages of Stavoren, Hindeloopen and Workum, famous for the Elfstedentocht (Eleven Cities Tour). You start in the Gaasterland nature reserve and along the De Mokkebank landscape, a bird reserve. The route also passes through the smallest fishing port in Europe, Laaksum.

Two marked trails have been set out through the Rijsterbos, the red (3 kilometers) and the blue trail. This is the blue trail through the beautiful Rijsterbos. The forest used to be an estate, built in the 18th century around Huize Rijs. The mansion no longer stands, but the forest through which you walk was largely planted at the same time. The Rijsterbos is an old forest on the banks of the IJsselmeer, where the Mirnser Klif beach is located. In the 17th century, Dutchman Hiob de Wildt bought the piece of land where the Rijsterbos is now located. He founded his estate here, at first only a few farms, and soon after Manor Rijs. He built gardens in baroque style around the manor. The house was demolished in the 20th century, but the Rijsterbos fortunately survived.
