Footscray Road Trail is a straight and flat stretch of path that works best as a connector to longer cycling trips in and around Melbourne. It can also be linked as part of a run or a longer walk through the city, but its primary users are cyclists. The views are not outstanding as you are quite near an industrial area, but the city skyline does have its moments. The most engaging option would be to extend your activity to the east and follow the paths on the banks of the Maribyrnong River.

This is a historical trail that follows the old stock route with timber structures and bluestone pavings and leads to Stockmans Bridge/Angliss Stock Crossing Bridge over the Maribyrnong River that was built in 1894 and rebuilt in 1941 to enable stock transport over the river from the salesyards and meatworks. The trail has good shade provided by tall pepper trees (Schinus molle) and nice views over the Maribyrnong River.
