This trail follows most of the Hærvejen (the Ancient Road), a hiking trail that runs from Frederikshavn and Hirtshals in North Jutland, and down to Padborg at the Danish-German border. This segment runs between Viborg and Padborg. The Ancient Road got its name because in the past it was used to transport an army up through Jutland, which led residents along the trail to build fortresses and dykes. This trail comes via Hærvejen from Viborg to Aars. Hærvejen was a main thoroughfare through Jutland at the time, which was used as a trade route between different towns. Along the way, the trail will pass through forests, open field landscapes, heaths, come along and cross several streams and have a view of Hjarbæk fjord.
