The East Coast Route, also known as National Cycle Route 5, follows Jutland's east coast over 650 kilometers. 90% of the entire trail is on paved roads. This part stretches between Århus and Ebeltoft, around the coast of Kalø Vig. The trail passes several forests and the path offers a fantastic coastal view. There are several campsites along the route and this leg stops at the two campsites in Ebeltoft.

The trail will pass by toilet facilities, benches and campfires along the way. This trail is also dog-friendly, which means that your dog can go off-leash. The castle was given as a wedding gift to King Christian X by the people. The castle was built in 1902 and is used as a summer residence for the royal family. At the castle, the Royal Guard's changing of the guard at 12.00 every day can be experienced.
