The George Aull Natural Area is one of the last stands of 'virgin forest' in the southeastern US and is named after one of the people responsible for establishing the Clemson University Experimental Forest, thus protecting this stand of giant trees. Some developers of densely packed homes have been ripping up the land between Highway 187 (Wild Hog Road) and the old logging road which provides access to this natural area.
