The GR®653 is a route in stages which connects Arles in the Bouches-du-Rhône to Jaca in Spanish Aragon. The route is one of the roads to Santiago de Compostela that cross France. This southern route crosses the cities of Montpellier, Castres, Toulouse, Auch, Oloron-Sainte-Marie, Jaca. This route presents the section between Arles and Aniane.

The course makes you discover the rice fields, the marshes, the magnificent pond of Vaccarès then the salt marshes and finally the beach. The immense expanses take the gaze very far. In the hamlet of Villeneuve an observatory has been set up on this road to observe the specificities of the landscape.
