There is an option to double back like this route, continue on the full 12-mile loop or take the shortcut connector to circle back on the south fork to complete the 6-mile loop. This is a wonderful way to see the hilltop views and low-valley creeks. The trail is mostly shaded and travels through a forested area full of hickory trees, and in the springtime, the trail is lined with beautiful wildflowers.
