This route is the fifteenth stage of the GR®42, the great hike that goes from the town of Saint-Etienne to the seaside resort of Grau-du-Roi, passing through the balconies of the Rhône. This stage runs along the Rhône from the town of Villeneuve-les-Avignon to the village of Aramon, passing in front of the medieval Philippe le Bel tower.

This walk goes around the ramparts that surround the old town of Avignon, the capital of the Vaucluse department, nicknamed the city of the popes. Avignon is one of the rare French cities to have preserved all of its ramparts. The ramparts were built to protect the papal city from Rovers and large companies during the Hundred Years War.

Nice route on foot or by bike in the countryside, close to the city of Avignon. Along the way, you will have beautiful views of the Rhône and the dead arm of the Barthelasse. If you do this route in the spring, you will have the chance to see the trees in bloom, which makes the landscapes even more beautiful.

Cycle route in the Barthelasse-Piot district and in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, north of the city of Avignon, in the Vaucluse department. On the way, you will follow the dead arm of the Barthelasse, and you will reach the banks of the Rhône, passing by the Villeneuve dam. To return to the starting point, you will take the beautiful stone bridge of the Kingdom.
