When the campground is closed, you can park in the small lot by the gatehouse. You may want to have the app or downloaded map on hand as there are several branches off the main trail that can be hard to follow. This is a good family hike. You have to park at the day parking area about 100 yards from the campground entrance, walk to the entrance and check in but there is no fee. The trailhead is just past the campground entrance.
