This easy trail takes visitors along the northern section of the park to a viewpoint of the Colorado River. While there is intermittent shade throughout the route, many sections of this trail are exposed and bringing sun protection is advised. The terrain is relatively easy and travels through a low-land desert environment.
Activities
Features
This scenic route travels to one of the most beautiful falls in Texas. However, both the falls and the springs can be seasonal and depend on the drought in the area. When the water is flowing, you can expect a 70-foot cascading waterfall. While most of the route is exposed to the sun, there are some groves of trees to hide underneath the shade along the way.
Activities
Features
The trail is extremely rocky and steep near the end of the trail. The rocks can be very slippery after heavy rainfall, and proper footwear is recommended. Advanced booking for the park entrance is recommended, as trying to visit during weekends can become crowded and the park may close for a couple of hours due to maximum capacity.
Activities
Features
Birders can enjoy viewing some of 155 species of birds found in the park, including specialties such as golden-cheeked warblers, black-capped vireos, and bald eagles. Gorman Falls is an impressive, 60-foot-high waterfall located on the western bank of the Colorado River. This area can be very remote with not much foot traffic around.
Activities
Features
Shade is abundant along this trail, with few sections of areas exposed to the sun. The route can be very hot in the middle of the day, especially in the summer, and it is advised to bring plenty of water along the way. This is one of the best places in the area for star gazing, spelunking, kayaking, and hiking.
