A demanding excursion that starts from San Sebastiano al Vesuvio. The route takes place in a loop and follows Path n. 3 the Loop of Monte Somma, which passes along the Cognoli di Trocchia (964m), the Cognoli di Sant'Anastasia (1086m) until it reaches Punta Nasone (1131m). The route continues slightly uphill in a rural area surrounded by vineyards and orchards, in particular apricot trees at the foot of Vesuvius.

A pleasant walk following the Path 8 called the Cogwheel Train "il Treno a Cremagliera". The round trip follows the historic path for the ascent to Vesuvius from the town of San Sebastiano to the foot of the hill on which the Vesuvius Observatory stands. The route can also be done on horseback or by bicycle. It is possible to combine the walk with a visit to the museum on the fascinating world of volcanoes.
