This is not a hike to be missed! After descending from the high rim of the Upper Black Canyon of the Gunnison, the trail follows Curecanti Creek as it falls toward Morrow Point Reservoir. The Curecanti Needle, a 700 ft. granite spire, towers above at the trail's end. You'd be hard pressed to find a more stunning natural landscape anywhere.

This is an awesome trail which offers visitors some spectacular views of the surrounding areas. If you're planning to bring your furry friends, please check the park information, as dogs are prohibited during specific times. Dogs are allowed on leash on the Rim Rock Trail except from June 1 - August 15 due to protective deer and fawns in the area. Day hikers and overnight hikers are all required to obtain a wilderness permit in order to hike this route. A limited number of permits are available from the South Rim Visitor Center on a first-come, first-served basis. Hikers should be prepared to carry 4 liters of water or should bring a water filter.

This is a short but challenging hike with gorgeous views of the canyon walls and the river below. Sections of the trail can be narrow with steep drop offs, so this trail is not recommended for those who do not like exposure. Bring sturdy footwear and trekking poles for the climb out. Keep an eye out for wildlife along this trail.
