This route begins north of Clarksville on Ark 21 and continues north until Ark 21 exits the forest near the Buffalo National River at Ponca. You can continue north on Ark. 21 to U.S. 62 at Eureka Springs to extend this beautiful scenic drive. There are many options to recreate along the way including great spots for hiking, camping, and canoeing.

This is a beautiful and short hike to a small cascading waterfall. HWY 123 Falls can almost be viewed from your car if the leaves are off and the water is running. Located near Hagarville and just off HWY 123, this waterfall is also close to the Haw Creek Recreation area. Simply pull off and park at the large open space overlooking Little Piney Creek, cross over HWY 123, and follow the short trail to the waterfall.

This is an excellent stretch of the Ozark Highlands Trail, connecting Route 21 to the Mulberry River. The river is especially active after periods of rain, and the water flow is at its highest. Beautiful river views are located along the trail and there are plenty of opportunities to observe wildlife. This is an easy-going and well-marked trail that is well suited for families.

The Arkansas Sphinx Trail is a short out-and-back trail that heads straight up a hillside. The terrain can be challenging, and it is advised to wear proper footwear. The reward is excellent scenic views and a close-up view of unique rock formations. This is a great choice to get the heart pumping and enjoy a beautiful area.
