Sunset Trail loops around Lake Ester east of Columbus Community Hospital and west of Columbus Wellness Center. The trailhead begins in the parking lot of the lake. The trail is one of the Columbus Area Recreational Trails (CART) paths and connects to another CART trail, the Discoverer Trail. The lake has benches for sitting and enjoying the view, a picnic shelter with two tables, a playground, and a concrete fishing area.

Pawnee Park, is tucked into southwest Columbus. The park straddles both sides of Lincoln Highway (US 81/ US 30), and is bordered by Loup River. The trail runs the length of the park, starting on 6th Street at the Berne Square (baseball diamond). It passes the playground and pond then starts to skirt the edge of Loup River.
