Lovely hike in the mountains, where stunning views are enjoyed in the environment of the Picos de Europa, following the Ruta de la Reconquista, a route recommended for experienced hikers. This excursion starts in the Asturian parish of Covadonga and continues along the GR®202 trail until reaching Poncebos, passing through breathtaking gorges, amazing valleys, cliffs and an unbeatable landscape in the heart of the Picos de Europa.

The access to the Vega de Orandi starts on the road from Covadonga to the Lakes (Km. 3), in the area known as Moferos. This hike goes through some of the farms of the Covadonga low mountain pass, such as Bastañar, Las Llacerias and Las Mestas, until it reaches the charming Vega de Orandi, where the river with the same name flows into a cave for a subterranean route that leads to the spring of the Cueva de Covadonga (Cave of Covadonga). This is a pleasant route for road cycling in the Parque Nacional Picos de Europa, starting from Auserva, and following through Covadonga along the Carretera Covadonga - Los Lagos, the Mirador de la Reina and the Lago Enol. When reaching Lake Ercina, continue in search of the Palomberu beech grove and the Vega de Enol. After crossing this valley, the Enol Lake comes up ahead, which must be bordered to go back to the starting point.

This route passes through the Asturian side of the Picos de Europa National Park, there is the Sanctuary, the Basilica and the Lakes of COVADONGA. This place is the origin of the National Parks in Spain. It was declared a "Protected Natural Area" in 1918 under the name of La Montaña de Covadonga. More than 100 years ago this place stopped being simply a religious pilgrimage point, now it is also a pilgrimage point for lovers of natural landscapes .
