This trail can be hiked in one day but is set up with a back country campsites for backpack camping. It winds around the perimeter of the park and links together several smaller trails. Hikers are supposed to check in with the park office to hike the most remote length. Old and new growth with not a lot of elevation change but enough to challenge.

A wide variety of terrain brings challenging ascents but rewarding descents. Many of the trails have bailout points that lead back to the haul road, allowing this route to be adapted to fit your needs. Combining Trails 2, 3 and 9, this short loop is the first to greet visitors who start their ride on the east side of the park. From the trailhead, follow the haul road to the beginning of Trail 2. Every mountain bike trail in Kickapoo State Park has a set direction. This route must be followed as shown to coincide with the directional nature of these trails. There are a few small bailout points that lead back to the haul road along Trails 2 and 3 to make the route shorter if desired.

Mountain bike routes in Kickapoo State Park are directional and can only be ridden a certain way. Trail 1B must be accessed by following Trail 1 to the northern access point and then following Trail 1B back towards the trailhead in a counter-clockwise path. This route can be easily connected to Trail 1A to extend the ride.
