This is a great hike to the ancient and spectacular Horseshoe Canyon. The start of the trail has stairs and gravel paths and is an excellent introduction to this interesting place to hike around thanks to the historic badlands that dinosaurs once roamed. The paved trail is short (1km), but there is a large number of trails and dry springs that allow you to tailor your time in the valley. Most of the route has minimal shade, so definitely bring a hat and sunscreen when here in the hottest days...

The trail starts out well marked and then becomes a pick your own way adventure. There are a ton of trails to explore around the area, through dried up creek beds, caves, and the canyon itself. Getting to the bottom of the canyon could be tricky if you pick the wrong path, so be sure to wear proper shoes as there are lots of loose rocks and dirt.
