The Pheasant Ridge Trail offers a 3-mile trail just off US Highway 183, from Park Avenue West and South Street to Methodist Cove by Harlan County Lake. Nice walking with benches and scenic views of Harlan County Lake along the tree-lined trail. It is not uncommon to come across wildlife in their natural habitat and get a chance to see many species of birds, so take your camera. This was one of the first western military posts that were built in 1849. Fort Kearny protected emigrants traveling out west and was later marked as headquarters for smaller outposts along the emigrant trails. Visit the remnants of this old fort and stop by the visitors center to learn more about the history of the area.
