For example, one of the unique options for this section of the trail is to ride or hike a loop using the C & O trail combined with the Western Maryland Rail Trail. Nice hike to two beautiful views. Quick climb at the beginning, then a nice walk along the ridge ending at High Rock. The hike on on the Appalachian Trail the entire time. Start at the trail head on the North side of Raven Rock road and continue North. Raven Rocks and a camp ground will be on your right after a bit of a climb. Keep going on the AT North until you see a sign indicating the High Rock viewpoint 0.2 mile loop. Enjoy the views. Some of the best around :)

The Mason Dixon Line, Highest AT Peak in MD, Steepest At Grade in MD! Almost immediately you begin the ascent of Raven Rock and onto Quirack Mountain, reaching the highest point of the AT through Maryland. The trail is sometimes rocky and slow going, but most of the way is well cleared and smooth. This section also boasts the steepest grade of the AT in Maryland.
