This loop explores the forests, open meadows, and creeks of Chesnut Ridge Park with the addition of the Eternal Flame Trail. The eternal flame is a naturally occurring gas spring that can be lit creating a small flame. It does go out from time to time, so bring a lighter along if you want to see it.
Activities

Begin from the Eternal Flame Parking Area off Chestnut Ridge Road/NY 277. Begin on a wide crushed gravel path before starting down a more narrow, forested trail. The trail passes through a more narrow ravine area at one point with a creek running through. The Boy Scout Trail runs north leading to another point along NY 277.

This trail can be slippery and dangerous. Please wear proper hiking shoes, and avoid the trail if overcrowded. Parking on the side of the road near the end trail is the shortest way into the falls. You can also park in the park and hike in from there. The Eternal Flame is a small natural gas spring that can be lit to create a small flickering flame.
