The city of Helsinki is preparing a general plan for the main cycling route that runs along the railway line to the Vantaa border. This route is called the North Baana, and the goal is a smooth and high-quality main connection for cycling. The section of the route from Pasila to Käpylä was opened in 2017. This section runs from Hakamäentie to Käpylä following the edge Louhenpuisto.

This route starts from Viikinranta and first follows the Vantaanjoki to Haltiala farm. From there, the route passes through Helsinki Central Park to the Pitkäkoski outdoor house. The route can be traveled in both directions. Viikinranta has the Pornaistenniemi birdwatching tower and birdwatching blind, a dog park, and the Technology Museum. At the northern end of Vanhankaupunginselkä is Pornainestenniemi, where a nature trail runs through the lush and sheltered nature. There are guide boards along the path that tell about the nature of the area and suggest tasks. The area has been protected as a nature reserve since 2016, and its alder grove contains diverse species. Over 150 fungus species have been found in the area, which is the highest studied number in Finland.

There are two small islands in , Helsinki's Vanhankaupunginlahti: Lammassaari and Kuusiluoto. These two gems in the middle of Helsinki are a great day trip destination, and a lovely destination for families with children as well. From Pornaistenniemi there is a duckboard trail to Lammassaari, and from Lammassaari to Kuusiluoto. Sheep graze in Kuusilouto in the summer, so it is important that the gates along the routes are closed. The duckboards that go to Lammassaari make the route...
