Hotel Landhaus Säntis Herisau

Herisau is the oldest church in Appenzell. The route takes you to the former hostel of the Goldenen Sternen and then through the diverse hilly landscape of Appenzell and Toggenburg to Wattwil. This stage leads over the spectacular Sitter Bridges and the guest reaches Appenzell Stein via Gübsensee. The scattered settlements and the atmospheric townscapes of Haslen and Schlatt accompany him on the high altitudes with a view of the Alpstein and lead him to Appenzell. From here, a wooded section offers a car-free passage into the Rhine Valley, which rounds off the stage with its vineyards and medieval old town.

This circular route in north-eastern Switzerland is classified as moderate. The starting point is the train station in Herisau and from there you hike along the Hölzlistraße to Tüfenau. This trail leads along the Robert Walser Weg. In honor of Walser, the writer Peter Morger created the first Swiss literary trail in 1986, the Robert Walser Trail. On this one follows in the footsteps of the wandering writers. The path begins in the town center at the Herisau Museum and at the Walser fountain. This hike in Herisau takes you to the Rechberg, Lutzenland, Sedel and the Pulvertürmli (or Powder Tower). This tower is an old tower where the gunpowder is kept. A pleasure between city and nature.
