This is the direct route to Pincushion Mountain and one most often traveled by hikers looking to get to the top. The trail forks about halfway through and veers to the right leading to a very challenging climb to the top. You will definitely feel like you earned the views. This is also the route used by the Pincushion Hill Climb Race, which happens each year in September.

$5 fee, cash/check in envelope system (bring a pen). National park annual pass also accepted. Getting to this trail requires driving through miles of fun, curvy mountain roads. It's an easy trail until the return, then it's a lot of uphill. Decent views at the bridge. The trail is shared with horseback riders.

There are two trailheads, one on the west side of the creek and one on the east side of the creek. You must cross bridge to access east side trailhead which is the proper trail. If starting on west side of Willow Creek, there is potentially dangerous creek crossing to reach the upper portion of the trail head at Devil's Slide. The two main attractions to Willow Creek trail are Angel Falls and Devil's Slide. The rocks in this area are extremely slippery, so be careful.

Sierra National Forest advises that hikers use the trailhead off of Highway 41 to access the trail. The Highway 41 trailhead features a large paved parking area. It is not recommended to access this trail from the smaller north and south trailheads. This popular trail can get crowded on the weekends so it is a good idea to arrive early to get a parking spot!
