This wetland area preserves the tributaries of the Trout and Ortega Rivers. There is a very primitive and wilderness feel to this area. Some of the main highlights of this area include a swamp overlook, large oak trees, lily ponds, and a diverse amount of wildlife species to observe. This is one of Jacksonville's best-hidden gems.

This is a paved trail that features some old military buildings along the route to observe. Accessibility: There are 8 designated accessible spaces in the paved parking lot off of Normandy Boulevard at the south end of the trail. All of them are van-accessible with striped access aisles. This is a scenic trail that mostly follows a gravel road through Cary State Forest. The gravel road turns onto a couple of primitive fire roads after a while that can often be flooded or muddy after periods of heavy rain. At the end of the route, the trail travels over a boardwalk providing beautiful views of the marshy environment surrounding this area.

This is a nice short trail to bring the whole family along! In the summer months, the trail may be overgrown, and downloading an offline map is recommended. There are plenty of birdwatching and wildlife viewing opportunities along the way. The trail can become muddy during wet conditions and waterproof shoes are recommended.
