Norscot Koppies and Kingfisher Nature Reserve is situated in Douglasdale, northern Johannesburg, the NKKNR is truly a jewel in the heart of suburbia. With an area of approximately 16 hectares, the reserve is home to a variety of flora and fauna including blesbok and duiker, and is the perfect spot to unwind on a Sunday. This trail falls outside the reserve but you may well see some game at the fence on your walk or run.

What a delightful discovery. Staffed on open days by volunteers, who are friendly and helpful, this nature reserve is situated in a previously productive granite quarry. Evidence of this are in granite chips covering parts of the trail, and in looming rubble piles like giant's fortifications. Wildlife abounds and the reserve is home to many species of birds, red buck, hyraxes (dassies) and small reptiles. You are rewarded with panoramic vistas of the surrounding suburban jungle. This urban park is a great outdoor environment for some exercise and easy walks or jogs with your kids or furry friends. The park is centred around a lake and has some trees for shade. Picnics are also a family favorite here. Please pick up your litter and pick up after your pooch to keep this park clean for all to enjoy.
