Excavations at the site lead archaeologists to believe that perhaps 8,000 people lived in the village at the site when Louis Jolliet and Father Jacques Marquette came through the area in 1673. This mellow gravel path heads from the Lee County Conservation Center to the river. A mowed path will take you through an area full of native grasses and wildlife. Keep your eye out for turtles sunning themselves on logs or rocks in the river. You'll likely see them on sunny spring days on this trail.

This trail off of Highway 61 is a great opportunity to stretch your legs. You'll get beautiful scenery. The area includes a kayak launch and fishing jetty. There are some areas of this trail that hold water and are often muddy.
