The area north to La Paz, the capital city of Baja California Sur, has interesting hills and canyons. With this route, you explore the valley between Cerro de la Calavera and the other hills in the area. Part of the route is on the Bahía Magdalena trail, and part is off-trail. Be careful because this area is very dry desert. Bring sunscreen and plenty of water.

The Cerro de la Calavera got its spooky name from its unusual rock formations and arches. It is an especially nice place to watch the sunset. The climb can be a bit rocky, therefore appropriate shoes are suggested. This route takes you to the top of the hill from the south. The trail ends here, but you can follow the suggested route along the crest of the hill. You will have beautiful views of the capital city of BCS, and the Gulf of California.
