A steep circuit above the hamlet of Morcles with great views over the Valais Alps - particularly Mont Blanc and the Dents du Midi. If you don't want to do the full circuit you can start about 600m higher up. The Croix de Javerne provides the first spectacular views, including Lac Leman and the mountains above Leysin. At the cabane Tourche you can stop for refreshments and a fine view of Mont Blanc.

Shortly after Saint-Maurice, you will discover Vérolliez where a small chapel commemorates the martyrdom of Saint Maurice and his companions. The "couloir du Nant Rouge" or Military Route ascends the peak by the SW face. It is not technically difficult but very steep and hugely exposed - the narrow path winds it's way up through the cliffs and buttresses of the face often with huge drops underneath. This hike starts in Mex and leads through the cultural landscape to the forest of L'Ecorcha and then to the top of L'Aiguille at 1870m.It gives great views of the area and one is able to relax wonderfully. This trail is suitable for the whole family. This trail can be a bit muddy after a few bad weather days.
