Begin from the Avalon Area trailhead where there is a picnic shelter. The loop is mostly wooded but does pass along the edge of an open field at one point. Wildlife such as deer is often spotted throughout the forest. The area is popular with hikers and mountain bikers on the weekends, so an early start is recommended.

This loop in the Avalon Area begins from River Road and loops through the forest and crosses some streams along the way. There are several rolling hills you will hike over. The trail has exposed rocks and roots in some areas while other stretches of trail are more buffed out from mountain bike riders.

Begin from the Avalon Area Picnic Area where there is a pavilion and some tables to relax at after your hike. The loop is mostly wooded and at points follows the perimeter of an open field. There are a few creeks along the way you will cross over. If it has recently rained be prepared for higher water levels in the creeks and muddy trails.

Begin from the Avalon Area where there is a pavilion, picnic tables, and a playground. You will head up along a small creek before heading deeper into the woods along the Morning Choice Trail. A connector trail will lead to the Ridge and Valley View Trails which head back towards the point where you were walking along the small creek.

The Ridge trail parallels the park road and the Patapsco River on the Howard County side. It starts at the Avalon Playground, which is the location of the New Extension. If you wish to shorten the trip up to the Ridge trail you can hike up the original Water/bars to the main connector. The Valley View and the Ridge trail both parallel each other.
