The trail starts at the end of Kanonestrasse road in Lucerne or at the mountain station of the historic Gütsch funicular if one is arriving up from the city. Then it's off straight into the Gütschwald forest. Again and again the trail offers great views of the surroundings and one also hikes through the area around the Sonnebergwald forest. This route takes you from Lucerne in the Swiss canton of Lucerne to Küssnacht in the canton of Schywz over forests with beautiful views of Lake Lucerne. The way is really great with the start from the city of Lucerne. After a few minutes you reached the shores of Lake Lucerne and then over a hilly section to Küssnacht, where you were back on the shores of the lake.

This alternative route of the Via Jacobi goes from Lake Lucerne over the Kapellbrücke in Lucerne in the canton of Lucerne and then along the Emmenuferweg to get to the Werthenstein Monastery, which is majestically situated on a rock outside the village.
