The park is the site of a former iron ore mine. The ore pit has filled with water, creating Lake Grubb. The park is approximately 54 acres in size. The site is heavily wooded, with a hiking trail encircling the lake. Several fishing areas have been developed. Boating, swimming, and pets are not allowed.

This is a great hike, especially in the winter when the foliage is down to get a better view of the countryside, towns, and river below. If you want something short and quick with rewarding views this is it. The overlook area is very rocky and railings keep people away from the cliff face. This is a fun trail that can be as quick or long as you make it. The ruins of an 1845 Henry Clay furnace are a highlight.
