The beginning is just past the campgrounds and has a small parking area. From the parking area it is a one mile dirt road that is sometimes closed off by a red gate to a second gate off to the right and slightly hidden behind some pines. The wooded path requires crossing a small stream where it eventually branches into the Meadow Branch trail and the Long Ridge trail which has a bigger stream to cross and wraps around the lake. The Meadow Branch trail is marked by light blue paint.
